ChoirThe young women of the Hambrick Middle School choir, along with Mr. Willits (center), celebrate their success at the State UIL Concert and Sight Reading Contest.

The Hambrick Middle School choirs recently competed in the State UIL Concert and Sight Reading Contest.  In this rigorous contest, choirs must sing three prepared songs, with two of the songs taken from the Prescribed Music List.  The students are then given a brand new piece of music and are allowed six minutes to prepare the piece.  Students are not permitted to sing the piece aloud until the conclusion of the six minute study period.  After receiving only their starting pitches, the students sing this new piece of music and are rated on their accuracy and musicianship.

All four Hambrick Choirs that competed sang very well with the 8th Grade Women earning a rating of Average, the Intermediate Women and then Show Choir Men earning ratings of Excellent, and the Performance Choir Women Receiving the highest rating of Superior.  Congratulations to all Hambrick Choir students for their hard work and commitment to musical excellence.
